Playground LA in association with The Echo Theater Company presents:
CERTAIN DEATH AND OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
by Eliza Frakes
Four Sundays at 7:30 pm: September 24, October 1, 8, and 15
The world will end in exactly 80 years – just enough time to have a baby! This devised dark comedy follows two couples (and a surrogate) as they prepare to welcome new life into a dying world. With doomsday waiting just outside of their natural lifespan, certain death is close enough to inform every decision, but far enough away to ignore in a pinch. A story for the post-pandemic pre-climate crisis generation.
Eliza Frakes is a writer and performer based in Los Angeles. As a young playwright in residence with the Echo Theatre, she held a reading of her original play Moleman. Her short film Murky was recently named a semi-finalist in the Boden International Film Festival, and her poetry and fiction have been published in Thin Air Magazine, Rock Salt Journal, and Portland Review. She is a founding member of Nine Twenty Collective, an interdisciplinary group designed to support collaborative artists in the generation of new media. Her new devised play, Certain Death and Other Considerations, will make its world premiere with Zoo Venues at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023. Eliza is an associate company member at the Echo and a company member at Playground LA.
